to Begur

and a Beach Walk

:: April 7 - 8 ::

Six do not fit in a five-passenger car so Sinta and Korcho joined us on the bus from Barcelona to meet up with Kristin and Benny in Begur, a small, scenic village carved into a hill above the Costa Brava. Begur's population of about 4000 swells to 40,000 during the summer months. We all remarked how quiet and peaceful the town is now. Hotel Aiguaclara, a tastefully renovated 1866 mansion, was a special find by Kristin. From the balcony off our room, we looked up at the remains of a 16th century castle and looked down to the Mediterranean. The climb up the hill to to Begur Castle remains affords a spectacular panoramic view over the tiled rooftops of the town to the coastal waters below.

Before a special Catalan dinner in the hotel's elegant restaurant, we drove down to the beach community of Sa Tuna whose beautiful cove reportedly had been a perfect hideout for pirates in the past. We had a photographic version of a bad hair day and did not capture well the beauty of our walk along a coastal path toward Aiguafreda.

Sinta and Korcho's cameras worked perfectly; they lagged behind and took these beauty-of-youth shots.
